It’s after 3am and my sleep for the night seems to once again be over! It’s something that although I am used to is also ridiculously frustrating. Just how long should one stay in bed thinking one will go back to sleep? I decided it was time to get up so that my restlessness didn’t disturb She Who Must Be Obeyed, who let’s face it, needs her sleep as much as the next man. Actually the man next to her doesn’t need that much sleep, so maybe I should rephrase that especially as she is NOT a man!
Mothering Sunday has now passed for another year. She Who Must Be Obeyed was suitably impressed with the gift from Small Persons 1 And 2 Of 2 and of course her wonderful dinner cooked by yours truly – Jamie Oliver’s Slow Roasted Lamb – something I was able to have cooking whilst at rehearsals. Even though every dinner is cooked by yours truly!
As predicted, Small Person 2 Of 2 seems to be getting her appetite back. She had three meals, albeit small and nowhere near her normal size, yesterday. I think the thought of that sample bottle is spurring her on to eat. We’ll give her another day before taking the top off that bottle!
Rehearsal seemed to go well yesterday afternoon – we did a complete run of the play for the first time with all cast members present. The set is looking good, the lighting is almost complete but we were lacking in sound effects. I think our Wonderful Sound Girl was too busy looking at the view from her new house. I’m sure we’ll see her, or should that be hear her, next week when we start the play for real. Opening night is only 7 days away!
The costumes are looking good too. Especially one outfit! One of the women in the cast has to wear an impossibly short skirt to which Good Friend And On Stage Mistress when asked whether she likes the outfit replies with the great retort “Apart from the fact that you can see your ovaries, it’s fine”. The skirt belongs to the woman’s 18 year old daughter and is accompanied by some fishnet tights. I’m a bit concerned about the elderly gentlemen who will undoubtedly be occupying the first couple of rows next week!
One costume which wasn’t on show yesterday was the one I wear for the first part of the second act. Well, when I say costume, it’s just a towel. I didn’t feel it fair on the rest of the cast to expose myself to them that much just yet. And I have to find the right time to tell She Who Must Be Obeyed about it (she doesn’t read this blog) – unless I leave it as a total surprise for her. She already knows about some of my on stage antics, but not in too much detail. Talking of which I felt page 30 went well for a first attempt with no real prior rehearsal. I’ll have to wait and see what comments Good Friend And On Stage Mistress makes on her blog – she may have felt it a disaster!
